HEY THERE!

My name is Ashley.

Welcome to my online journal and creative outlet. Grab a cup of tea, browse the archives and stay awhile!

I’ve figured it out. I now know the secret to being able to have early morning quiet times.
For years I have heard that the best time to have a quiet time is right when you get up, early in the morning. Well, I just wasn’t having that. I’m the girl that gets up 20-30 minutes before I have to be somewhere and gets ready with less than 1 minute to spare. I have struggled for years to figure out how people are able to get up early enough to have a quiet time before they leave the house in the morning.
Well, folks, listen closely. The secret is…. going to bed early.
Woah.
Yes. I had heard the “secret” before, but as a young person, never really wanted to actually have the self control to turn off the tv, close the computer and put away the cell phone earlier.
But this week I have.
I love the flexibility of having enough time in the morning to devote almost an hour in the Word, in prayer and focusing my mind on Christ before I’ve even checked Facebook. I’ve also noticed that my prayer life has increased because of this morning quiet time phenomenon. Once I’ve already been in conversation with Him in the morning, it’s a whole lot easier to remind myself that my thoughts throughout the day are just a continuation of that morning conversation.
It’s so completely worth it to get to bed an hour or two earlier so I can have that time saved for Him in the mornings. So worth it.
So now, I challenge you, even if you have a consistent quiet time in the afternoon or evenings, to take the extra effort to go to bed an hour earlier so that you can invest that time in the morning with the one who created you. There’s something very special about that time with Him and it will always be more fulfilling than that extra hour on Facebook.
